The recently released Chrysler 200 has received a lot of attention for its 2015 redesign, but in a massively competitive midsize segment, does it have what it takes to hold up against titans of the class like the 2014 Ford Fusion? We’ll see if the 2015 Chrysler 200 lives up to the hype in our comparison of the 2014 Ford Fusion vs. 2015 Chrysler 200.

The first, and perhaps most important, element car shoppers look for is a strong combination of performance and fuel economy. The 2014 Ford Fusion offers a number of powertrain options to cater drivers looking for power, efficiency and a strong combination of the two. The base Ford Fusion runs on a 175-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Fuel economy ratings soar as high as 34 highway mpg in that model.

Perhaps the best efficiency/power combo in the Ford Fusion is in the Ford Fusion SE with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Rated for 178 horsepower and and 177 pound-feet of torque, Fusion models equipped with that engine are capable of up to 36 combined mpg on the highway through start-stop technology like that used in a hybrid model.

The entire 2015 Chrysler 200 fleet comes standard with a 184-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Those models return up to 36 highway mpg. While the base model figures are comparable, no Chrysler 200 model can match the balanced performance of the Fusion SE with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. The 2015 200 does offer a more powerful 295 horsepower V-6, but fuel economy figures take a more dramatic hit.

Ford’s EcoBoost powertrain options are a far better option than the V-6 in 2015 Chrysler 200. While it’s best-in-class 295 horsepower is something Chrysler can hang its hat on, the Fusion Titanium approaches those figures with 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque while maintaining 33 highway mpg.

While the 2015 Chrysler 200 seems to be an improvement from the previous generation, the 2014 Ford Fusion continues to reign in the midsize sedan segment. Find out why behind the wheel of a 2014 Ford Fusion in Jacksonville NC at Sanders Ford.
