Just in case you needed any more convincing that the 2015 Ford F-150 was a big deal, we’ve got some big news: we just heard the 2015 Ford F-150 was named the North American truck/utility of the year. This is the eighth time a Ford vehicle has been named the North American Truck/Utility of the year, and the 2015 Ford F-150 is one of the toughest, smartest, most innovative, most capable vehicles of the new year. It also has an extremely impressive fuel efficiency rating and tons of high-tech gadgets to make it fun to drive. The 2015 Ford F-150 was named the North American truck of the year over the Chevrolet Colorado and the Lincoln MKC at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, which is going on this week in Detroit.
The Truck/Utility of the year award is given to the vehicle that most adequately provided a great user experience through innovation, design, handling, safety, driver satisfaction and value. The vehicle also must be all-new or substantially changed from the previous model year in order to qualify for the award, and boy does the F-150 fit that criteria. The 2015 Ford F-150 was completely remodeled for 2015 inside and out. It is the first pickup truck to be constructed using military grade aluminum alloy, which allowed the F-150 to drop more than 700 pounds, making it much more efficient and easy to drive. The lighter weight is one of the main factors that led journalists to name the 2015 F-150 the North American truck of the year because it provided customers with more options in terms of engines, capacities, and fuel economy. For example, the 2015 F-15 can now tow 1,100 more pounds of cargo, and haul up to 530 pounds more of cargo. It also has one of the best EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of any other full-size gasoline-powered pickup truck in its segment. The 2015 F-150 can also be equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine that provides fuel economy ratings of 29 city/26 highway mpg. It also comes with some innovative new features such as a 360-degree camera, integrated loading ramps for ATVs, motorcycles or lawn mowers, a safe cargo box, trailer hitch assistance and a remote tailgate that can be locked.
