2018 Ford F-150 named an IIHS Top Safety Pick
Drivers who are looking to purchase a new truck are generally looking for a vehicle that has high performance and is able to undertake heavy-duty workloads. There are some drivers who won’t be looking at the how safe their truck is, but others may be worried about staying safe while on the road. Those who are considering the 2018 Ford F-150 won’t have to be concerned about safety, as the truck has been named an Insurance Insitute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick. Whether you’re looking at the crew or extended cab, the 2018 Ford F-150 has been rated as “Good” by the IIHS. To qualify for the Top Safety Pick, a vehicle has to receive a score of “Good” or “Acceptable” in all five tests, and a rating of “Superior” or “Advanced” in front crash prevention, which is scored out of six points. The 2018 Ford F-150 received a “Superior” rating with a score of six out of six when equipped with the available Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. While the F-150 has received a great honor, it has missed out on being a Top Safety Pick+ due to the headlights, which scored below the required rating. IIHS adds a small overlap passenger side test
There is one test that the 2018 Ford F-150 has not undergone yet. The IIHS has recently announced that they will be adding a small overlap front passenger side test. This test will follow the same structure of the small overlap front driver side test. During this test, the vehicle hits an obstacle on the outermost 25% of the driver’s side at 40 mpg, which mimics the damage that would be done when the vehicle hits another vehicle, a tree, or any other obstacle. In the past, some manufacturers have only reinforced the driver’s side, since that was the side that will always have someone in harm’s way. The new test, which will be implemented this year, will use the same test on the opposite side.
