More and more details have been revealed about the latest version of the iconic Ford Mustang. This includes the power sources under the hood of the new sports car. The 2018 Ford Mustang engine options and performance will continue to make this car well-loved by fans.
Mustang Four-Cylinder Engine
The standard engine offered on the 2018 Mustang will be Ford’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. This engine replaces the outgoing 3.7-liter V-6 as the standard engine on the base Mustang trim levels. Performance numbers for the 2018 Mustang are not yet available, but previous models equipped with the engine were rated at 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. By offering the Mustang with a turbocharged EcoBoost engine, Ford is able maximize performance while delivering practical fuel economy ratings.

V-8 Mustang Engine
In addition to the four-cylinder, Ford will be offering the Mustang with a 5.0-liter V-8. This powerful engine is standard on the Mustang GT trim level. Performance numbers on the engine are also yet to be announced, but previous Mustang GT models have been rated at 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
Both 2018 Mustang engine options can be paired with Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission.
