Can You Use Amazon Alexa In Your Car?

Home voice services, like Amazon’s Alexa, are becoming increasingly popular. But, while these devices are designed for easy connection to the cloud while at home through voice commands, many may wonder if you can also use the Amazon Alexa technology in your car. Well, now it is possible.

Thanks to cooperation between Ford and Amazon, those who use the Amazon Alexa will now have the ability to access Alexa from within their car. If the user is at home, they will be able to use the voice service to access their vehicle as well. These capabilities will be made available this summer 2017 for Ford drivers whose vehicles are equipped with the SYNC 3 system.

Alexa’s In-Car Features for Ford Vehicles

In addition to doing things like requesting sports scores or weather forecasts, contacting Alexa in your car will also make it easier for drivers to connect to their home, and what they do at home, to their on-the-go life.

For example, say you were listening to an audio book at home but need to go out and run some errands. With the Alexa feature in your Ford, you will be able to command Alexa to pull up the audio book your were just listening to and pick up where you left off. Drivers will also be able to access Alexa smart home devices from within their vehicle to control things like lights, security systems, the garage door and more. When trying to access your car from within your home, Alexa will be able to start the Ford’s engine, lock its door, check the fuel level or check the mileage.
