Easy vehicle maintenance that you can do yourself 

Vehicle maintenance can be akin to magic if you aren’t sure what you’re doing. Even the simplest task can seem like re-inventing the wheel. However, knowing basic vehicle maintenance is something that is imperative for every car owner to learn. Being able to accomplish simple maintenance tasks can save you from having to take an expensive trip to the garage.  

Some things that everyone should already be doing on a regular basis is checking your oil and tire pressure. Both of these barely count as maintenance and should just be considered part of the cost of car ownership. In addition to knowing how to check your oil and tire pressure, you should also know how to change both your oil and tire. However, there are other basic maintenance tasks that can easily be done by anyone, even a novice.

Vehicle maintenance you can do at home

To change the air filter, simply locate the housing, which is usually a black case with metal clips and then open the housing. Before you remove the old filter, make note of how it had been inserted so you can replace it correctly. Remove the old filter and replace it with the new one, closing and securing the casing when you are done. Your air filter should be replaced every year or so.  

When you’re driving, it is likely that you don’t think about your windshield wipers unless you need them. If your wipers are old and are leaving streaks on the windshield, you’ll probably want to replace them before the next time you need them. Luckily, replacing your windshield wipers is easy. Simply remove the old blades and then follow the steps in your owner’s manual. Most models have a tab that you can push to remove the old wipers and then line up the new ones and push them on.
