If you didn’t hear, this last weekend was the highly demanding Best in the Desert Mint 400 Off-Road race, which the all-new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor was competing it. We’ve written about the Raptor before in anticipation of its arrival and we were pleased to not only see how the Ford Raptor did in the Best of the Desert Race, but also excited.
Ford Raptor Finish Best in the Desert Race
In most casing, finishing a race isn’t thought of as impressive compared to things like winning, but when it comes to the Best in the Desert Race even a participation award is an achievement. Out of the 68 total teams that entered only 19 were able to finish — with the Ford F-150 Raptor being one of them, of course. One of its drivers, Greg Foutz, was very pleased with how the new F-150 Raptor was able to perform throughout the race.
“We’re really pleased with the F-150 Raptor’s performance,” said Foutz. “The all-new F-150 Raptor race truck was strong throughout, and its new high-output EcoBoost engine and transmission are seriously impressive.”
What’s different about the Raptor compared to a regular F-150?
The Ford Raptor has been specifically built as an off-roading machine. Because of this, it has a few upgrades in some areas to help it handle the tougher terrain better. This includes a fully boxed, high-strength steel frame, its military-grade aluminum body, and a set of 17in Ford Performance wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires. It also has a little something special under the hood — an all-new high-output 3.5L EcoBoost paired with an all-new 10 speed transmission. You won’t find those in a regular F-150!
