October is here and that means it’s time for Jacksonville’s annual Oktoberfest! The Oktoberfest in Jacksonville NC is always a great time filled with music, food and fun! The best part is that is also serves as a fundraiser for the Onslow Community Outreach, a nonprofit organization that supports local community programs. These year the Jacksonville Oktoberfest will take place October 24-25. Come see what this event is all about!
The Jacksonville Oktoberfest was founded in 2008 and is the major community fundraiser for the Onslow Community Outreach that helps fund the Onslow Soup Kitchen, Homeless Shelter, Caring Community, Clinic, Benevolence Assistance Program and Christmas Cheer. The event will open Friday night with the a 5K run and continue on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On Friday night to kick off the event, there will be the Stein and Shine Glow Run at 6 p.m. The run will start and finish in Riverwalk Park and can be registered for now or on the day of the event. The course is 3 miles long and there will be three spots along the way where runners/walkers will be given a glow accessory to wear as they complete the course. At the end of the course participants will be rewarded with a 12 oz beer or soft drink in a commemorative glowing mug. All proceeds from the race go to the Onslow soup kitchen, homeless shelter and free clinic. As an added element of fun, costumes are encouraged for race participants. The run is very casual and allows for walkers, strollers, families and pets to join in.
