Vintage Ford Commercial
Welcome to another edition of Sanders Ford’s flashback Friday! Ford has been around for decades and through the years they have had a variety of pop culture appearances in their commercials. Celebrities are common in advertising even today. In 1961 Ford put the Peanuts characters in their commercial for the Ford Falcon. The gang learns all about the Falcon in this vintage Ford commercial.
The Peanuts cartoon originated in was a big part of the 60s thanks to the golden age of the comic strip. Everyone knew who Snoopy and the gang were, so they made the perfect partner for Ford to use in their new commercial. The commercial revolves around Pig Pen and Linus learning all about the Ford Falcon from the voice over. The voiceover explains that everyone who has seen the Ford Falcon is excited. He goes on to explain that the Falcon is comfortable and fits six people. Linus even throws in some sass by saying that “It must be pretty embarrassing for the other compact cars to realize how they missed the boat.” Nothing is more adorable than a cartoon character being sassy.
The commercial also uses the characters to highlight the many impressive features of the vehicle, including two engine types and a fuel economy of 30 mpg. Even back then, buyers were concerned about gas mileage. They also point out that it oil needs an oil change every 4,000 miles and it has a diamond finish that never needs waxing! It still comes at a low price and just hearing about it, makes Snoopy and the gang dance with glee.
A part of us is a little nostalgic for a time when commercials were so simple yet effective. Now they are much more elaborate and Ford would never let a cartoon version on screen. Even Ford’s advertising has evolved since 1961. To see what Ford has been up to since the Ford Falcon hit the market, visit Sanders Ford.
