Until now, there were very, very limited options for drivers who need a wheelchair accessible vehicle. However, Ford came out with a first-ever wheelchair accessible SUV, and we must say, it’s pretty cool.

With the help of BraunAbility- the world’s leader in mobility vehicles, Ford is manufacturing the first-ever wheelchair accessible SUV, which may be easier to maneuver, more fun to drive and more stylish.

This is a huge move for Ford as the company widens its reach to accommodate every driver and passenger out there. We would expect a number of other automotive manufacturers will follow suit, but for now, Ford is the top dog in the accessibility game.

The vehicle will be called the BraunAbility MXV and will use the Ford Explorer as its base. By using the Explorer, drivers and passengers are able to handle a number of terrains and are able to complete a wider array of activities because they won’t be slowed down by their vehicle!

The BraunAbility MXV will feature sliding doors, removable driver and passenger seats, a power lighted in-floor ramp and the interior space is maximized to create plenty of room for wheelchair navigation and comfort.

The middle seat of the Explorer is removed in the BraunAbility MXV so the most common power wheelchairs can fit. It features a 3.5L V6 engine and has an EPA-estimated rating of 17 city/24 highway MPG. It also has a 5,000 maximum towing capacity.
