Will the 2017 F-Series Super Duty be made from Aluminum

Ford surprised many people when it switched from a steel-based body to the aluminum-alloy found in the 2015 Ford F-150. The results speak for themselves, though, with an increase in efficiency, performance, and capabilities like towing and  hauling. Not to mention the added security of not having to deal with body rust anymore! The big question now is will the 2017 F-Series Super Duty be made from Aluminum?

Aluminum body on the F-Series Super Duty

Ford has announced that the all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks will use a high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy. The chassis cab will also feature a new high-strength steel frame that incorporates an open-c channel design the cab. This will result in the Super Duty being easier to mod with aftermarket body upfits.

The new aluminum body will reduce the weight of the Ford Super Duty by up to 350 pounds, which is where all the additional benefits will spread from. Because of its overall reduced weight, the engine that powers the Super Duty will spend less time moving its weight forward, and have more energy going into towing, hauling, and performance. We currently don’t know how much this will affect the 2017 Super Duty’s max tow rating, but our guess is that it could have a pretty significant impact.
